The two cultural institutions were founded in 18th September 1919, as an expression of spiritual rebirth after the Great Uniuon in 1918. The building which houses the „Lucian Blaga” National Theatre and the Romanian Opera was built between 1904 and 1906, as seat for the Hungarian National Theatre, by the famous Viennese firm „Fellner und Helmer”, combining stylistic elements of new-baroque and Secession.

Founded in 1792, the Hungarian State Theatre of Cluj is the oldest theatre in Hungarian. Nowadays, a repertory theatre, it is subordinated to the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Most of the shows played in Hungarian are being translated simultaneously in Romanian on the helmet.

Puck Puppet Theatre was founded in 1950 having the particularity of a parallel artistic activity of the two sections: Romanian and Hungarian, with shows conceived mostly for children. Many important plays which have been put in scene over time have had versions both in Romanian and in Hungarian.
